Marvel Legends Monet St Croix review (2023) BAF Ch’od wave
Monet St Croix has a fairly complicated backstory even for an 90s X-Men adjacent character. The key thing here is in one identity or another, she’s been a long-standing member of Generation X. That’s a team that’s gotten little attention from Hasbro’s Marvel Legends line despite being huge during the X-heyday.
That changed with the Build-A-Figure Ch’od wave, which brought two Gen X members to the line. Monet might have been a surprising choice for that designation, but she provides a necessary base body for Gen X’s female members.
Let’s see if Monet St Croix’s Marvel Legends figure is almost as good as getting two figures or is she needs to sit in the back of the shelf in penance.
Packaging: The Build-A-Figure Ch’od wave still featured the plastic window-less presentation. This setup was working from a deficit since you couldn’t see the figure so it didn’t matter how colorful the color scheme or the large style artwork.
One side noted which piece of the BAF came with Monet St Croix while the other featured a better look at the artwork used for the front. Over on the back is a large secondary shot of the figure and her accessories. These were always embarrassing given the weaker accessories included.
Likeness: Monet St. Croix largely uses the Shriek mold with some new sculpted parts to more accurately reflect the Gen X outfit.
That means she gets a new upper torso with a Nehru collar, a zipper with a circular X, shoulder pads, large, segmented gauntlets and knee/shin pads with studs and a belt with another circular X as the buckle.
This isn’t fully accurate — the elbow pads should have a band across the bicep apart from the gauntlet and the front zipper should extend all the way to the belt. I suppose it is close enough, but considering the easy reuse for at least two more characters it would have been nice to get it all done as accurately as possible.
I’m torn on the head sculpt for Monet St Croix. In the comics, she’s portrayed as this model level beauty. The figure’s head sculpt looks fitting to that description from some angles and just decent from others. It’s a good attempt but mainly because the team has gotten much better at sculpting attractive women compared to the days of Scarlett Mitch. Her hair sculpt is appropriately long and flows past her waist.
Scale: Monet St Croix is slightly above average height at 5’7″ so she’s closer in height to the 5’9″ Nightcrawler. She should be looking up at the 5’11” Emma Frost, which depending on the version of Emma used is properly scaled with M despite being too tall to her co-chair Banshee.

Paint: Monet St Croix has a solid paint job thanks to the fantastic Gen X outfit color scheme of a red bodysuit and gold armored sections.
The more precise costume elements like her zipper and belt lining came out fairly clean though it’s harder to tell since you can’t actually avoid a figure with a sketchy paint job.
Articulation: The Shriek mold allows Monet St Croix to have great range to hit plenty of action stances.
Naturally, her longer hair creates some restraints as far as her left/right and up/down movement. Since it sweeps over to both shoulders she’s harder to get the just right pose in staging convincing action scenes.
Monet St Croix has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- butterfly shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- hip
- thigh
- knee (double-jointed)
- ankle
Accessories: Monet St Croix gets some weak accessory options with just the matching fist and open hands from the default look.
This would have been an ideal occasion to include an alternate head sculpt specifically one that more closely resembled Bachalo’s take on the character.
For her other accessory, he gets the left leg of the Build-A-Figure Ch’od.
Worth It? Monet St Croix was the base $25 price, which wasn’t a great value considering the slim accessories. I played the waiting game and was able to get her for half off at $12. Even with the new original Gen X outfit parts, that’s a much better price.
Rating: 8.5 out of 10
Monet is a pretty nice figure with the only drawback being the flow of her hair sculpt and the limitations it causes to some of her action poses.
Where to Get It? Monet St Croix was part of the last regular BAF wave available at Target. You can still get her from Amazon.
