Action Figure Reviews

Jada Toys Mega Man – Cut Man review (2024)

Cut Man gets me a little bit closer to completing the original Mega Man roster of Robot Masters. Jada Toys has delivered above my expectations for the line and this should be another fun figure to break down.

Let’s see if Cut Man is a cut above or isn’t sharp enough to stand out.

Packaging: I appreciate how Jada does something special with each of their lines. The Mega Man packaging is set up like the game’s loading screen with an energy bar on the left side. I love the artwork showing Ice Man in action though it’d be better if both sides featured the unique character instead of the 8-bit take of Mega Man.

My one knock with the presentation is the lack of a bio, but we do get a shot of the other two figures in this initial wave as well as the game selection screen images of the other Robot Masters. That’s a fun touch.

Likeness: Cut Man is the first of the Jada figures to fully use the Mega Man mold — save the head of course. Others have used a part or two. That’s definitely not an issue since that makes sense given the similarities in their designs. Smart reuse is never a problem.

It’s when companies just ignore sculpted details onto a figure and call it good enough (looking at you McFarlane Toys).

Cut Man’s head sculpt gives him plenty of personality with his intense eyes showing he’s ready for action. His “ears” resemble mug holders to further provide some more distinct elements to his look.

Paint: The Robot Masters have two primary colors and maybe a third accent color. Cut Man follows that setup with an orange head, forearms, waist and boots while his body is white with a grey collar and leg bands. He’s got an extra bit of color with blue eyes. Everything was very clean.

Jada is quickly becoming one of those companies where I don’t feel the need to be concerned about how a paint job will turn out since they’re always so reliable. That’s key since this isn’t a line that I can just go to Target or Walmart and pick up.

The only thing off with him is the game design and even the package artwork show him with more of a red orange than the standard orange used for the figure. That’s an odd decision since the figures have matched up well to the game model.

Scale: Cut Man is the same height as Mega Man making him taller than Ice Man and wider than Fire Man. I appreciate Jada mixing up the heights of the Robot Masters so they’re not all looking each other eye to eye.

Articulation: Cut Man basically jumped and tossed his Rolling Cutter. Articulation doesn’t have to be the biggest deal with these figures, but Jada is making sure you could off more exciting fights between Mega Man and the Robot Masters if he only battled them with his Mega Buster.

Cut Man has plenty of useful range of motion and the design allows for deeper joint cuts.

Cut Man has:

  • neck
  • ball-jointed shoulders
  • elbow
  • wrist
  • wrist hinge
  • torso
  • waist
  • hip
  • thigh
  • knee (double-jointed)
  • ankle

Accessories:  Cut Man doesn’t deviate from the standard Jada Toys accessory rollout.

He’s got an aiming left hand and a gripping right hand to launch his Rolling Cutter. Those are the blades that by default are attached to his head. He tosses them like a boomerang as his main attack.

To pull off that in-air attack, there’s a clear stand with an articulated arm to rest it.

Finally, he’s got an alternate head. This one has a bit more personality and fully matches the box art showing him glancing to the side as he prepares to unleash the Rolling Cutter.

Worth it?  The normal price on these figures is around $21.99. I got him for just over $14, and Walmart had him for even cheaper at $10. Considering what you get, that’s a tremendous value for a really awesome figure.

Rating: 10 out of 10

Cut Man is another winner in the line with a lot of personality in his head sculpt and a bright color palette to stand out among the Robot Masters.
