MOTU Masterverse New Eternia Mekaneck review (2025)
Mekaneck has been one of the most loyal Masters of the Universe and has been a fixture alongside He-Man in the endless battle to protect Castle Grayskull. Not bad for a character who could have easily just been written off as a guy with a goofy gimmick.
With the New Eternia line, Mattel has an excuse to redesign him for a new figure.
Let’s see if Mekaneck was worth sticking my neck out for or if this version should be on the chopping block.
Packaging: The New Eternia Masterverse line is undefeated with their presentation. One of my favorite aspects is the story being told. For Mekaneck, he’s on a beachfront after leaving his Battle Ram.
Unfortunately for him, he hasn’t spotted Clawful and his Karikoni are emerging from the water and behind rocks. Things aren’t looking good for the scout.
On the right side, is the close-up portrait along with the wider shot of Mekaneck in action.
Over on the back is another large image of Mekaneck surveying an area full of stalagmites. There are three smaller images showcases all of his accessories. His bio explains that King Randor sends his submarine squad captain out in search of fragments of Castle Grayskull. The cross sell is a mix of Revelations and New Eternia characters.
Likeness: Mekaneck has one of those designs that is hard to upgrade since that original 1984 design fit him perfectly. He’s got a pointed helmet framing his googles shaped like inverse triangles. His portrait is nicely determined, like a true focused hero.
The chest piece retains the same slotted sections and the center plate with panels throughout.
Mekaneck sports the trademark MOTU belt with the center gem and smaller circles. The detail in the belt is more intricate than it’s been done with previous figures. Next is the loincloth that drapes a bit further than trunks.
He’s got the furry boot tops and asymmetrical wraps around them. Mekaneck has a larger bracer on his left wrist to rest his shield while his right bracer is the smaller, traditional size.
Scale: Mekaneck is typically shown to be a bit taller than most of his allies even before accounting for his extended neck. His figure is just a little shorter than King Randor and He-Man, but he’s no shrimp.

Paint: The Masterverse series rarely has paint issues. That’s largely due to the parts being molded in the respective colors. There are some precise sections like his chest armor with solid work on the silver elements.
Just because Mattel streamlines the chances for poor paint jobs isn’t something I’ll count against them and Mekaneck turned out strong.
Articulation: Mekaneck has the standard 30 points of articulation. You’re not getting a ton of movement thanks to the positioning of the chest armor, but he is definitely more of a distance, ranged fighter.
He’s at his best spotting potential threats to his allies. The armor isn’t totally restrictive though as Mekaneck can hold his telescope with both hands in a natural pose.
With his neck extension capabilities, he can strike some fun poses as well.
Mekaneck has:
- neck
- ball-jointed shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- waist
- hip
- thigh
- knee
- ankle
Accessories: Mekaneck gets a fun array of accessories. Naturally, he’s got the extra sections for his neck piece. It’s got five segmented sections so you can take some of them off to make his neck as long as you like.
Those neck extenders can also be used for Mekaneck’s weapon — his mace. It’s got an ornate pattern throughout. You can remove the top section to place some of the neck extenders for combat or for use as a telescope. This is the New Eternia update for Mekaneck as it adds a lot more posing and playable options for him.
Finally, Mekaneck has a shield. This is a nice new addition to his armament. The design is the Battle Ram bird against a number of red triangles perhaps as a nod to Mekaneck’s helmet and goggles? It can also be plugged onto his back.
On the non-offensive side, he has a swappable set of fists.
Worth it? I grabbed him on sale for $18. That’s a good value for a Masterverse figure especially one with a well thought out execution of the throwback gimmick.
Rating: 10 out of 10
Mekaneck gets a very fun New Eternia update with some cool tweaks that make this the best version of the character yet.
