Dynamite Entertainment 4/8/26 – Space Ghost vol 2 10 review

Space Ghost vol 2 10 kicks off another multi-part installment with a multiverse concept that actually looks intriguing.

The creative team of writer David Pepose, artist Jonathan Lau, colorist Andrew Dalhouse and letterer Taylor Esposito have long established that they don’t need multiple issues to tell a strong story. Some of the series’ best installments have been one and done stories, but in the rare cases where a story requires more than one issue they are usually excellent.

Based on this opening chapter in Space Ghost vol 2 10, this is shaping up to be one of the best multipart arcs yet.

Tempus the Time-Master is tearing through the multiverse battling and defeating various Space Ghosts. Ever mindful of readers’ investment in the series and conveying the pacing of the original cartoon series, Pepose doesn’t show Tempus conquering various Space Ghosts before he tangles with this series’ SG and crew.

Naturally, Space Ghost, Jan, Jace and Blip can’t immediately defeat Tempus especially since Space Ghost vol 2 10 kicks off with them battling the various villains they’ve previously encountered as a prison break is underway.

As the series has progressed, Jan and Jace have gotten their share of the spotlight and have emerged as heroes in their own right. While they’re not at Space Ghost’s level, they’re not incompetent sidekicks who constantly need Space Ghost to rescue them from trouble they’ve gotten themselves into. As of late, they’re actually proving to be invaluable partners to Space Ghost and vital to completing some of the missions. Blip is consistently entertaining as well being one of the more helpful pet partners who can also take out a bad guy or two himself.

Lau gets to showcase his dazzling action choreography and dramatic perspectives to give this opening action sequence its proper importance. That’s key as it shows how formidable and solid a fighting unit the Space crew is, making it all the more impressive how easily Tempus beats them in their first encounter.

Dalhouse gets plenty of opportunities to work in stunning color combinations while keeping stark contrasts with Space Ghost’s bright white costume and the team’s bold primary color attires against darker backdrops.

Esposito weaves in a strong blend of distinct fonts for the various characters and exciting sound effect fonts.

Space Ghost vol 2 10 ends with a captivating cliffhanger as half the team is in the distant past and the other two are in the future promoting Tempus to send agents of his own to track them down so he can accomplish his mission of controlling the time stream and multiverse.

Fortunately for Jan and Jace, they encounter an ally who’s been bracing for this battle for decades, which sets the stage for an exciting second chapter.

Like its previous installments, Space Ghost vol 2 10 doesn’t need goofy gimmicks to get readers engaged in a good story. This series remains in the upper echelon of must-read comics each month.
