GI Joe Classified Series Crazylegs review – retro card (2026)

Crazylegs doesn’t make his GI Joe Classified Series debut with his Retro card release, but it is his first one in his classic colors. For those who missed out on the HasLab Dragonfly with the Night Force model, this is better than a consolation prize since the retro release is based on his 1987 debut.

I always felt bad for Crazylegs as he was one of the more dynamic looking Joes from the 87 wave, but he got left out along with fellow cool wave mate Outback in getting shut out of G.I. Joe: The Movie. Had he and at least Outback made the cut for the Rawhides they would be more popular.

He got a figure as one of the tiers in the GI Joe HasLab Dragonfly, but that was done in his Night Force colors. Now we get the classic Real American Hero colors courtesy of this retro card release. Let’s see if he’s ready to hit the skies or if his figure is crashing down.

Packaging: Crazylegs gets one of these goofy AI looking action shots to simulate his pose on the original Real American Hero packaging. It’s bizarre how bad this looks compared to the original RAH card art, which looked like Crazylegs was dropping into a hectic battleground instead of leisurely dropping in and yelling like he’s telling some kids to stay out of his backyard.

The back has a bunch of different languages meaning his file card info is very short. On the bottom, we get the cross sell with his wave mates Zap and the female Crimson Guard trooper.

Likeness: Crazylegs had a great design with a grey flight suit with a red padded vest with a padded section that carried over to his shoulder pads, elbows and the inside of his pants with shorter boots.

For his Classified Series update, Crazylegs has the padded section just covering his shoulders and tighter with more of a wider stripe that goes down his torso, crotch and pants. He also has gloves, which feature sculpted seams.

He keeps the parachute harness, and it’s set up to be wide enough for his gun to rest in while he’s dropping in. He’s got another harness that holds his grenades and knife as opposed to the RAH version that just had them hanging from the red quilted vest. Additionally, he gets a holster on his right leg for his pistol.

Now let’s get to the main issue with Crazylegs. For some reason, the Hasbro sculptors opted to give him a yelling portrait. This is an intense expression and would look great as an alternate portrait for action shots. As the only head sculpt it’s a bizarre choice since most of the Joes have neutral expressions.

The new head sculpt is even weirder since Hasbro already made a Crazylegs head sculpt with the Night Force figure. That was a calm, neutral one and the only issue with it was the slightly translucent plastic used.

Scale:  Crazylegs might have several different parts, but he is the same height as the average Joe. He’s taller than wave mates Tunnel Rat and Jinx but will be looking up to Outback just slightly.

Paint: Crazylegs had a suitably darker paint job for his Night Force CS release with a mostly black attire with some olive green and some red accents. The classic paintjob distinguishes the quilted, padded section with bright red paint applications.

It’s mostly lines up correctly save some of the rounded sections along the legs. The black accents on the interior harness, belts, holster and boots are all fine.

His gloves and outer harness are tan though it would have been nice for the center clasp to be silver as well as the upper buckles.

Articulation: There’s no surprises with the CS articulation scheme. Thanks to the harness not being particularly restrictive, Crazylegs doesn’t have any limitations to his movements.

He has no trouble getting into basic attack stances thanks to his super smooth and fluid articulation rollout.

Accessories: Crazylegs has a solid array of accessories that are nearly the same as the HasLab Night Force version.

To start, he’s got the wide backpack with the various folds to look like it contains his parachute. The static line isn’t in a different color compared to the red used on the NF figure though a different color would not reflect the retro style since it was all tan on the RAH figure.

The backpack doesn’t rest as flush in his back as has been the one lingering legacy issue with the line.

Next up is his helmet, which mainly has the same aesthetic as the modern Classified Series helmet with slightly more paneling and a chinstrap. The RAH version just had the goggles’ strap breaking up the all-red helmet, but the CS version adds more black paint on the helmet while retaining the red chin guard section of the mostly black chinstrap.

His goggles are mostly reused from the NF version with the ones that fit over his helmet save the translucent lens.

Crazylegs gets a knife to cut through the static line if he’s caught up in a tree or something. That easily fits into the sheath on his left leg.

For his main weapon, Crazylegs gets an approximation of a Heckler & Koch Universal Machine Pistol (UMP). It has a scope and a hinged stock. You can remove the magazine and fold the stock in for a more compact weapon scenario.

He’s got a smaller pistol with solid detail. It fits smoothly into the holster on his right leg. Finally, he’s got the classic black stand.

Worth It?  Crazylegs has the normal CS price point of $27.99. He’s got a great rollout of accessories as the CS team continues to try to give collectors the most value for the price point.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10

Crazylegs is a really solid figure that’s only undone because of the extremely expressive head sculpt without a secondary neutral portrait.
