G.I. Joe Classified Series Night-Viper review (2026)

The Night-Viper were easily one of the cooler Cobra Viper specialists. Unlike some of the other Viper squads whose jobs were to quickly strike fear with chaotic, noisy and devastating attacks, the Night-Viper squads were the quiet, sneaky ones who stalked out their targets. They seem like a natural enemy for Lowlight, who is the coolest Joe sniper.

Hasbro’s GI Joe Classified Series team teased the Night-Viper early on, but we finally get to add them to the Cobra ranks.

Let’s see if this Classified Series versions of the Night-Viper was worth the wait under the harsher lights in the review spotlight.

Packaging: Night-Viper has the standard CS packaging with the blue accent and the decent size window to see most of the accessories. With a character like Night-Viper, he pops against the dark red backdrop.

He’s No. 187 in the line. The right side shows the smaller version of the stats and the “QR Code to Nowhere.” On the left side, there’s a portrait of the Night-Viper with his scope down and rifle ready to take out some Joe targets.

Over on the back, is an action render of the Night-Viper on a rooftop getting ready to aim.  The detailed smaller pics show his unmasked portrait and backpack.

For his skills stats, Night-Viper scored a 3 in night combat and 1 in marksmanship, long-range weapons and stealth.

Likeness: The Night-Viper had one of those outfits that didn’t need a lot of updating and enhancing for the Classified Series figure. Like the other 91 Vipers, the CS team didn’t have to do a ton to improve that design.

The Night-Viper’s Real American Hero figure just had a specialized helmet with an opening to show his eye mask. For the CS figure, he’s got a balaclava with the intense eyes being the only visible section. His souped-up, angular helmet and articulated image enhancer scope is a separate piece.

Night-Viper has an armored chest piece that basically protects his center as it doesn’t fully cover his chest. The armor isn’t as bulky to allow them to still quickly pick up their gear to shift their firing positions.

He’s got a strap slung over his right shoulder with a sheathe for his knife. Along the left shoulder is a wired box.

On his right armor is an arm band with extra ammo. The armor continues over his codpiece with a belt holding some waist and hip pads in place.

Night-Viper has more of the streamlined armor on his legs with a holster along his right thigh and possibly an ammo pouch on his left leg. The RAH figure had ribbed padding on the outer sides of his pants. There’s a real sleekness to the outfit even with the armored elements.

Scale: Night-Viper is around the same height as the other Alley Vipers and is right around eye to eye with the standard GI Joe.

MORE:

Paint: Night-Viper has a great paint scheme the dark green that really pops against the shiny black armored pieces. He has some gold accents as well as brighter yellow for his Cobra logo and patches on his shoulders — one features a skull with a lightning bolt behind it over a dagger while the other a crescent moon, an eye and a star.

There’s a nice mix of colors to help it stand out from the other Vipers. The visible portions of his skin and eyes in the mask are cleanly done providing a very steely, focused expression.

Articulation: There’s no real difference from the Night-Viper with the standard CS figure. He really just needs to be able to aim his rifle and pose his smaller pistol, which is absolutely no problem.

You can get some very dynamic poses out of him thanks to the CS articulation scheme.

Night-Viper is a bit top heavy and with his weaker ankles, he can topple over a bit. He also has softer plastic compared to some of the more recent figures. He hits poses fine, but he does become a bit of a balancing act at times.

Night-Viper has:

  • head
  • neck
  • shoulders (butterfly)
  • elbow (double-jointed)
  • wrist
  • wrist hinge
  • mid-torso (ab crunch)
  • waist
  • hips (ball-jointed)
  • drop down hips
  • knees (double-jointed)
  • ankles

Accessories: Night-Viper has a bunch of accessories.

First is his sniper rifle with a larger scope. The detail work on the rifle is impressive with a decent size butt to rest up against his shoulder.

It does have a strap so he can carry it on his shoulder. The rifle’s magazine is removable.

Next up is his pistol. This is a pretty significant size backup option. Maybe that’s what the Night-Viper uses to shoot out locks to get onto rooftops?

His backpack has good detail and looks to have some dials with antennas, so this also functions as a communication device.

He also gets two knives, so he’s set for all kinds of short-range combat as well. One fits into the chest sheath while the other goes in the sheath in his boot.

This definitely means the Night-Viper needs to be thoroughly checked even when they’re captured.

The Night-Viper helmet features a detachable larger scope to reveal a red lens to lean further into the night-time theme.

Worth It? Night-Viper goes for $27.99. He’s one of the Vipers that it’s not a stretch to see a lot of collectors will army build so this one likely won’t see a lot of price hikes. Given the gear and overall cool design he does feel worth the price point.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10

The Night-Viper is an excellent addition to the Viper ranks and definitely one I’m going to need to get a few more for the army much to the chagrin of my shelves.
