Marvel Legends X-Men ’97 Emma Frost review (2025)
Emma Frost didn’t have a large role in X-Men ’97, but her appearance did give the Marvel Legends team an excuse to crank out another figure of one of the more popular 2000-era X-Men.
Some of the X-Men’ 97 figures have blended in seamlessly with the comic book figures. Let’s see if Emma blows my mind or if this is another decent but ultimately underwhelming attempt.
Packaging: The X-Men ’97 figures use the retro card style presentation with a large graphic of the show title along with most of the X-Men. Since X-Men ‘97 focuses on the main group, Emma Frost doesn’t make the cut.
We do get the larger picture of the figure and the cross sell of the other characters in the wave.
Likeness: Emma looks like her X-Men ‘97 appearance with her laced corset and long gloves and boots.
Her head sculpt has a slightly animated appearance, but she can fit in with comic book figures well enough despite the simpler cartoon design. Emma’s portrait is stellar conveying her smug personality.
She’s got a choker as well as her cloak with furred collar. The cloak is plastic again, which is fine for aesthetics — not so great for helping with her poseability. It does have nice detail with the layered fur and gem in the center.
Scale: Emma Frost is much taller than she appears in the cartoon.
This has been a constant issue with the Hellfire-era Emma Frost figures, but she definitely towers over most Marvel Legends female figures. She doesn’t appear out of scale next to X-Factor Havok or the Hellfire Club guards, however.

Paint: Emma’s paint job is fairly simple with some cadet blue for the laces of her corset and the red gem.
Her makeup is well done with subtle airbrushing to lean into her knack for keeping up with her appearance.
Articulation: Like the other Emma Frost figures, her cape renders any shoulder articulation useless. She has double-jointed elbows, which allow her to make some telepathic gestures with one hand, but the way the cape falls she can’t raise both arms.
That’s extremely frustrating since Emma can hit the necessary poses. She’s even got a great ball-jointed torso that aids in getting more expressive poses. But the cape is literally a drag on her articulation. You can take it off, but that is a weak compromise.
As a result of her high heels, she is a tricky figure to keep reliably standing. She can stand more consistently than the dreaded Astonishing X-Men Emma, but that is a very low bar to clear. If you’ve got a stand handy, you’d be better off keeping her on it so she doesn’t topple your display.

Accessories: Emma gets a decent number of accessories for a retro card figure.
She comes with an alternate set of open hands to simulate Emma using her powers.
Finally, she comes with an additional portrait with a sly smile and windswept hair. That makes for a nice option for dramatic action poses.
Worth It? Emma is the standard Marvel Legends price of $27.99. That feels like too much for a figure without a bunch of new sculpting or accessories. You can find her now for $25, which is a better price.

Standing issues aside, this is a really nice Frost figure. With a soft-goods cape that allowed better use of her articulation scheme, she’d be pretty close to an ideal Emma.
