Transformers Studio Series 86 Bonecrusher review (2025)

Bonecrusher is the beefy looking standard size member of the Constructicons. Thanks to his formidable appearance, he tended to stand out in cartoon segments when the faction was together telling Megatron if he could imagine it, they could build it. Hasbro took a focused approach to get collectors the Studio Series 86 version of the Constructicons in the same calendar year so we didn’t have to wait years to build Devastator.

We didn’t have to wait long on Bonecrusher as he was the second member of the Constructicons to get released in 2025. Let’s see if the big bulldozing member of the team is ready to plow his way through to the top of the heap or if he just needs a ride to the scrap yard.

Packaging: Bonecrusher gets the updated Studio Series packaging with the breakdown of his order release to build Devastator and the steps to transform him.

The front features Bonecrusher in both his bot and alt modes with a decent sized window to show off the figure. One side features the carryover artwork from the front while the other side has the large image of Devastator. Over on the back is the same shot of Devastator battling the Dinobots along with a very insignificant bio. In the backdrop, there’s an image of the Autobot shuttle with the hole in it marking the start of the Decepticons ambush on Autobot City.

Likeness: Bonecrusher has stockier appearance than he was typically portrayed in the cartoon. He definitely was thicker and had a wider frame than most of his fellow combiners, but the figure’s legs make him look somewhat stubby. The animation model had more of a crotch area, which provided an obvious spacer between his torso and legs. To allow for a smoother transformation, the crotch piece is eliminated and his torso is boxier.

Hasbro did get all of the other animation details just right including the “widow’s peak” and chin guard section on his face plate frame. Bonecrusher has a nicely stoic expression befitting his role with the Constructicons. His torso features the mirroring ridged panels on the sides and the three smaller panels in the center section. Based on his torso size, his arms could have stood being a tad longer.

Bonecrusher’s legs are his caterpillar tracks with tread detail when he’s in his alt mode. They look better in a pose just to show they’re not just long slabs. Bonecrusher comes with a connector piece for when he’s uniting with the Constructicons to form Devastator. This can be attached onto his back so you don’t have to worry about losing, which is an appreciated design element.

Scale: The Constructicons are in a variety of scales to best accommodate their various roles when combining into Devastator.  Bonecrusher and Scavenger are the deluxe class members and form the arms while Scrapper and Mixmaster — the Voyager class figures comprise the legs while the Commander Class of Hook and Long Haul make up the torso.

Bonecrusher is taller than Scrapper and Mixmaster and is right around the same height as Scavenger.

He will be looking up at the Seekers and Megatron while looking down at Frenzy and Rumble.

Alt Mode: Bonecrusher transforms into a bulldozer. He might be more fun in his vehicle mode than his bot mode thanks to how impressive he is in this form. There is a nice level of detail, and his blocky bot mode is utilized well in his alt form.

The Constructicons have a very fun, uniform look and scale when they’re in their alt modes. They definitely come off like an ominous crew when they’re rolling up on the Autobots.

Transformation: Bonecrusher takes 16 steps to transform into his bulldozer form. Like the other Constructicons so far, his transformation makes sense once you start.

Paint: Bonecrusher rocks the basic Constructions color scheme of bright yellow green and deep purple. He’s got a silver faceplate. While his red glasses aren’t as bright as I’d like, they don’t have the shutdown hue of so many other Studio Series figures.

The red on his chest piece is nice and vibrant while the purple slots are a rich shade that stands out. His Decepticon logo is pristine.

Articulation: Despite his bulk, Bonecrusher still has fluid articulation. The thick treads have knee articulation so they’re not just long, bulky legs. In every worthwhile regard, Bonecrusher has smoother articulation than it initially seems.

Accessories: Bonecrusher comes with his cartoon blaster modeled after his original figure.

It’s fairly basic without any deco hits, but it gets the job done.

You can remove the Devastator connecting piece to give Bonecrusher some more articulation, but otherwise as the magazine is slanted to the left side compared to being straight down like it appeared in the movie.

Worth It? Scavenger was $25, but it might be harder to find him at that price. For the regular price, he’s a very good addition to the line. Over $30 and he’s pushing it.

Bonecrusher gets a very solid figure making for another fabulous addition to the Constructicons’ ranks.
