G.I. Joe Classified Series Airtight review – No. 198 (2026)

Airtight is a GI Joe that would be a favorite by default for being featured in my all-time favorite cartoon episode The Funhouse. He also fits in a useful role as the team’s hostile environment specialist as well as being the resident practical joker. He’s a fun character who proves you don’t have to have lavish locks to be a cool Joe.

Hasbro is closing in one finishing my favorite lineup of Joes — the 85 series — and Airtight was becoming more glaring in his absence. We need a true ver. 2 Snake Eyes, but at least we have a stand-in. I’ve always liked his color scheme too, so this was one of my more anticipated Classified Series figures of 2026.

Let’s see if Airtight gets the “all clear” or if he proves to be a hazardous addition to my collection.

Packaging: Airtight has the standard Classified Series packaging though I still wish all of the accessories were fully visible in the single card window like they are with the deluxe figures.

The right side features the skill stats and the QR Code to Nowhere. On the left side is a great image of Airtight wading through some toxic, hostile environment.

Over on the back is a render of Airtight in a tunnel presumably one where Cobra is mining Dark Energon with smaller images spotlighting different aspects of the figure.

For his skill stats, Airtight gets a 4 in chemical engineering, 3s in environmental specialist and biohazard detector and a 1 in rescue.

Likeness: Airtight wears a thick hazmat suit, which is probably made of better material than the Mole Rats. Fittingly, he doesn’t seem to share any parts with the Mole Rats as his outfit is thicker than a regular Joe’s gear but isn’t overly cumbersome.

As has been the case since Spirit Iron-Knife, most of his design is a scaled-up version of the Real American Hero figure. That was the right way to go as Airtight had a very cool and unique look among the Joes.

gi joe classified series airtight review - outfit detail

His tactical plate carrier includes an air filtration unit for his suit and a data pad. The detailing on this is very nicely done with buttons on the rebreather, a readout, a gauge and fan.

Airtight has tightly bound gloves and boots to protect against any gasses from seeping in on his skin. I like the detailed padding on the gloves and boots.

He’s got a zipper-style lining that goes up to the top of his neck, so his skin is covered provided you don’t raise his helmet up too high.

In a welcome plus from his original figure and the fantastic GI Joe Renegades figure, Airtight’s face is fully visible so you can see his cartoon-style receding hairline. It’s nice to see that included and I dig the intensity in the sculpt since the eyes would still show through the helmet visor.

On the other hand, the Renegades Airtight has a full head covering so his skin isn’t exposed to any toxic elements unlike the bare section on the CS version.

Airtight has a holster on his right thigh to accommodate his newly included pistol and knee pads with a sculpted wrap around the pants to secure them in place.

gi joe classified series airtight review - scale with footloose, barbecue and dusty

Scale: Airtight is a regular height Joe who looks a bit wider thanks to his hazmat suit. He should be about eye to eye with Barbecue, Shipwreck or Flint.

MORE:

Paint: I’ve seen a lot of complaints about the bright yellow of Airtight’s suit, but I don’t see it as a problem. He’s the hazmat guy. It’s not like he’s part of Night Force with this gear or skulking around like he’s a member of the Ninja Force…well, you know what I mean.

The green paint on his plate carrier, belt, gloves, holster and boots is solid. One area that wasn’t as well designed is the knee pads, which should carry over the green instead of the base yellow when his knees are bent. It’s a questionable design choice especially when the green wrap wasn’t essential in the first place.

Airtight does get some additional hits of black paint to tone down the green with some on his plate carrier gear, the belt and kneepads as well as the strip for his suit.

Articulation: Airtight’s hazmat suit and harness don’t hinder his movement though he does have some significant range limitations due to the execution of the hoses on his backpack and helmet. More on that in a minute.

Airtight is relatively easy to pose if you take the hoses off, but be mindful of the tube connecting his sniffer gun as that tends to pop off easily.

Airtight has:

  • head
  • neck
  • shoulders (butterfly)
  • elbow (double-jointed)
  • wrist
  • wrist hinge
  • mid-torso
  • torso
  • waist
  • hips (ball-jointed)
  • drop down hips
  • knees (double-jointed)
  • ankles

Accessories: Airtight gets all of his essential gear though not all of it is well executed.

First up is his protective helmet with the tubes to connect to his backpack. This is a matter of great idea, poor execution as the tubes are so short they don’t allow for any room for Airtight to turn his head in either direction without them popping out. That’s not great and an easy source of frustration.

gi joe classified series airtight review - helmet misaligned

The helmet isn’t a snug fit either as it rides up too high. It seems like you’ll need some sticky tack to keep it in place, which is more problematic since part of the fun is taking off the helmet to show his face.

gi joe classified series airtight review - focused stance

He’s got his pistol for up close and personal battles. This fits snugly into his holster.

gi joe classified series airtight review - on the move with sniffer and pistol

For his main weapon, Airtight has a sniffer that he uses to detect noxious gases/compounds Cobra tosses out onto the battlefield. It sure feels like a Toxo-BAT would be right up Cobra’s alley, right? The sniffer is made up of a softer plastic, which allows Airtight to hold onto both the handle and grip with little trouble.

Finally, he has his classic backpack with a connection tube for the sniffer. The backpack has exhaust fans to help filter out chemicals in the air so he can maneuver without any issue. The cord for the sniffer is long enough that it doesn’t hamper his movement.

Worth It? Airtight clocks in at the standard price point of $27.99. He’s got a decent amount of gear, and the removable helmet definitely adds to the value.

Rating: 8 out of 10

Airtight is so close to being a great figure, but the absent neck paint and the far worse execution of the hoses hold him back.
