Image Comics reviews 8/26/26 – Void Rivals 33, Terminal 2
Terminal 2
Terminal might only be in its second issue, but writers Robert Kirkman and Joe Casey are hardly dragging their feet with the pacing of this opening arc. One on hand it’s refreshing to see a new series just jump right into the fray and parcel out enough important story bits to allow readers to catch up. Of course, at times that approach can come off somewhat scattershot with the random info dumps and the risk of asking readers to invest in characters they barely know let alone understand their motivations.
Alessandra aka Crusher lost her sister, Marilyn, after she accepted the challenge to join her team and was killed during the transformation process. That made for a wild unforgettable ending of the series debut. For the first time, Crusher is questioning if working with the all-seeing eye, Maculox, actually has a purpose besides fighting a seemingly unwinnable secret war.
Crusher and her team are sent to save tech industry leader Benjamin Wright whose headquarters seems to hold more secrets than just the updated schematics of the latest cell phone. Before they can decipher that mystery, they have to tangle with Siren and her crew of killers who arrive at the facility seemingly searching for Wright as well leading to a bloody and violent face off.
Artist Andy Kubert does solid work establishing the visual tone of this series with intricate action sequences and dramatic emotional faceoffs. Colorist Dave McCaig weaves in a smart mix of bold colors that helps make blood stand out without drowning Terminal in a drab, dull color palette.
A lot is going on in Terminal so far and that’s not a bad thing. There’s an exciting sense of unpredictability and an anything goes tone making for a fun, if not always entirely clear, read.
