Green Lantern is such an unserious book currently making for one of the more entertaining just sit back and enjoy a little comic book absurdity titles on the market. With so much doom and gloom in the real world, sometimes you need to unwind with a comic book featuring Condiment King arriving in Los Angeles to battle Big Belly Burgers’ apparently superpowered mascots.

Writer Jeremy Adams could and has written some serious and dramatic fare. This run hasn’t needed to be a downer and bleakly depressing. Adams’ goal clearly seems to just be about having some fun and that’s perfectly fine. Kyle Rayner was shocked to see his most hated archrival, Major Force, show up last issue and tries to get some overdue payback. Jade explains that he’s part of the Justice League’s Amnesty program and is technically on their side. Adams always shows a fantastic awareness of storylines going on in the wider DC Universe and actively tries to incorporate them in his titles.

The Condiment King subplot is goofy fun and shows the range of wacky characters in the DC Universe. The Hal Jordan subplot is slowly rolling out albeit a bit too slowly, yet Xermanico and Szymon Kudranksi’s art keeps the issue lively and energetic throughout with the usual solid color work from Romulo Fajardo Jr.

Don’t take one too seriously and you’re likely to enjoy it while Adams slowly starts playing out the Hal subplot.
