Marvel Legends Astonishing X-Men Colossus and Kitty Pryde review (2026)
With Kitty Pryde and Colossus, the Marvel Legends team has completed the Astonishing X-Men squad. Team completion is always worthy of celebration especially when the team turned out so well with one glaring exception — Emma Frost (cough cough).
We’d previously gotten an Astonishing X-Men Kitty Pryde way back with the first Marvel Legends Juggernaut Build-A-Figure. She was due for an upgrade and Colossus needed his Astonishing look.
Let’s see if this long-term couple deserves any love or if they should be far apart on the Astonishing side of the display.
Packaging: This set has a really solid presentation with the red orange burst beaming through the black and the Astonishing X-Men logo in sparkling silver. The two sides and back feature Astonishing artist John Cassady’s art on the back.
I really think the packaging team should include the artists whose art is used to help sell the figure.
The bio tells a bit of a story though it oddly doesn’t explain that the two are part of a new team of X-Men.
Likenesses: Kitty Pryde gets an incredible head sculpt that does a great job of channeling Cassady’s style in a way the Emma Frost sculpt did not. It captures her youthful appearance compared to her friends/teammates without making her look like a teenager. She’s got a focused, determined expression.
The previous take wasn’t bad, but this version is more accurate to the source material with her tunic style top having a rounded collar section and a full belt with shorter flared gloves.
The belt should just be one piece that spans across her hips, but this is the best alternative short of leaving it up to the paint job. That would also lose the team-connecting belt buckle that everyone (save Beast) wears as part of their gear.
Colossus essentially has his classic outfit without the flared shoulder pads and angular thigh high boots. The sculptor actually included the seam line down the middle like Cassady drew the outfit.
His head sculpt is stoic with a more pronounced widow’s peak. The attention to detail with both figures is commendable.
Scale: Kitty Pryde is still too tall. Even as she got older she didn’t drastically get taller. She’s about the same height as every other female figure, but with a smaller head she doesn’t look as tall. Still, her height is the one thing holding her back from being a perfect Astonishing era Kitty.
Colossus is appropriately massive and tank-like. He towers over the rest of the team even though Cassady tended to draw him even taller. He fits in fine with Cyclops, Beast and Wolverine.

Paint: This set features a strong paint for both figures.
Kitty Pryde sports beautiful work on her head sculpt with just the right amount of subtle makeup to make her look older than the Shadowcat figure. She just has two relatively minor issues.
Her zipper, which was impressively done from her collar to the midsection of her top doesn’t continue down to her waist. It’s a weird omission considering the extra steps taken to include it. Secondly, her belt buckle is somewhat faint. The paint apps are decent but a little fuzzy.
Colossus is equally pristine. The silver really pops against the clean, vibrant red and yellow. Understandably, the only area where the paint is not perfectly crisp, are the thin strips on either side of his knee pads.
Articulation: Kitty Pryde uses the Shriek mold, so her articulation isn’t surprising, but it’s nice to have a reliable articulation scheme.
This is the first Colossus figure to actually get butterfly shoulders. That definitely enhances his poseability despite still having single-jointed elbows. The new ab joint allows him better side to side motion as well.
With these new enhancements the Astonishing Colossus features the best articulation of the various Colossus figures yet. That’s good news for fans of the Romita Jr., Outback and Magneto Acolyte looks — not so good for collectors who want the original outfit to have the most fluid movement.

Accessories: There aren’t a ton of obvious accessories the ML team missed with this set.
Kitty Pryde gets an alternate head sculpt with her hair down and a smiling expression. A buddy of mine raised the question why the ML team won’t do swappable hair sculpts like we’ve seen with the GI Joe Classified Series line.
It would’ve been nice to swap the ponytail sculpts like we’ve with the smiling expression and hair down look with the serious expression.
She also gets open hands to simulate when she’s in phasing mode. Finally, she has her pet dragon, Lockheed. This is the same mold for Lockheed that we got with the previous Kitty Pryde figure. Its tail can wrap around her neck and rest on her shoulder.
Colossus doesn’t have as many options. He gets an alternate head with an intense, gritted teeth expression. That’s very useful for intense action pics.
He also gets a separate set of outstretched, grabbing hands, which is ideal for lifting or pulling poses.
Worth It? This set has had some price fluctuations. Hasbro Pulse initially had the set up for $49.99, which was a clear mistake, but they had to honor it go early pre-orders. The price has settled to $55.99. Astonishing Colossus could be a deluxe figure on a bad pricing day at Hasbro so paying $27.99 doesn’t seem that terrible a price.

This is a tremendous set with well executed Astonishing versions of Colossus and Kitty Pryde.
