McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Black Adam review (2026)

With the line winding down, McFarlane Toys does deliver a classic DC Multiverse Black Adam. They’d done a number of figures featuring Captain Marvel’s arch-rival, including some based on the movie starring Dwayne Johnson, but we didn’t have a true comic book version.

Since we got an awesome classic Captain Marvel/Shazam earlier this year it was imperative to get a vintage DC Multiverse Black Adam to battle him.

Let’s see if this DC Multiverse Black Adam brings the thunder or if this release is more of a whimper.

Packaging:  DC Multiverse Black Adam comes in the standard Multiverse packaging with the black color scheme with white and blue accents.

The side lists this as the Moden Age Black Adam though this definitely works as a classic version as well. On the back is the variant cover for Black Adam #6 from Brandon Peterson.

Likeness: The DC Multiverse Black Adam largely reuses the Shazam mold, which makes sense as he’s the mirror image of Captain Marvel.

Of course, he doesn’t have the cape, and he’s got a new head sculpt leaving much of the difference to the paint job.

I mostly like the new head sculpt except for the scaling of it, which gives Black Adam a massive dome.

If it were sized down a quarter or so, it would be great as it captures his pompous attitude wonderfully with the perturbed expression and raised eyebrows. This sculpt also features a tremendous widow’s peak as well.

Scale: DC Multiverse Black Adam should be a bit shorter than Captain Marvel — he’s 6′ to Marvel’s 6’2″. He’s the main character you’ll want to match Black Adam up with, but thanks to the larger head he actually is taller. It’s not a crazy deal breaker considering some of the other more egregious scaling issues with this line.

Paint: McFarlane figures are usually fine with the paint jobs. DC Multiverse Black Adam has a smooth one with the deep black contrasting sharply with the bright, vibrant gold.

The gold got enough applications, so it doesn’t have any black bleeding through, which is pretty impressive. DC Multiverse Black Adam’s skin tone is darker than it’s shown on some figures, but this looks accurate to his origin.

Articulation: DC Multiverse Black Adam has the standard solid articulation with 22 points of articulation. He has no problem striking a variety of power poses to showcase him battling Captain Marvel.

He’s got good range of motion to hit solid flying poses, punches and lifting heavy objects. The Superman mold is very well-engineered for a powerhouse like Teth Adam.

  • ball-jointed shoulders
  • butterfly shoulders
  • elbow
  • wrist
  • wrist hinge
  • torso
  • waist
  • hip
  • thigh
  • knee
  • ankle
  • toe

Accessories: DC Multiverse Black Adam really gets the bare minimum of accessories. The only dedicated extras he gets are a pair of outstretched/flying hands. An extra head sculpt with more intensity would have been welcome for sure.

Additionally, he comes with the usual trading card and black circular stand.

Worth it?  The Multiverse figures have had another price increase in the home stretch, so this wave’s releases all ran $26.99. That doesn’t make for a great value when the character has such a small number of accessories.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10

The DC Multiverse Black Adam has a big noggin, but beyond that he’s a very solid figure and absolutely worth getting to provide Captain Marvel his archenemy in this classic comic book style.
