DC Comics reviews 9/16/26 – Absolute Green Arrow 5, New Titans 39
New Titans 39
Static’s arrival to the team proved a quality jumping on for the book, which is not just feeling like a New Titans revival that should work but also a subtle Batman and The Outsiders homage.
The fun twist here is in New Titans it’s Cyborg and Nightwing serving as the veteran heroes trying to get the next generation of heroes ready for their moment in the spotlight. So far the dynamic has worked exceedingly well as New Titans is providing a home for some underserved DC heroes who fit in seamlessly on this still developing team.
Writer Tate Brombal is making the most of the Static fandom bringing new eyes to the title. Static serves as the narrator as the Titans travel to Wonder Girl’s former homelands Akahim in the Amazon. Her dreams indicate something has gone terribly wrong as a new nightmare is on the verge of surfacing. Not everyone is happy to see Yara Flor return home however.
This issue gives artists Sami Basri and Bruno Abdias the opportunity to flesh out more or Yara Flor’s backstory from her rivals, her leaders and the wonders of her land. The scope of this realm is fantastic and Adriano Lucas’ colors really captures the lavish sights of Akahim.
Letterer Steve Wands does a strong job of making distinct text for the chants and sound effects. The threat to the Amazons might have some connection to a money bro, Commodore Murphy, who seems a bit too generous with his aid that comes with the added bonus of allowing him to set up his internet platform.
New Titans feels like it’s in the midst of a highly enjoyable resurgence with this eclectic mix of characters and some unique missions that isn’t the same old.
