Absolute Wonder Woman 24

absolute wonder woman 24

Heretic’s second chapter finds Diana battling with two of her “brothers” in Phobos and Deimos. The Absolute versions of the twins is nightmarish with ghoulish heads and smoldering energy around their bodies. This is a pretty creative design from artist Hayden Sherman and colorist Jordie Bellaire.

The twins have created an illusion of a giant eye watching over Gateway City prompting Wonder Woman to take to the skies in Pegasus to make a true visual statement to assure the citizens she’s on the case. Writer Kelly Thompson writes Phobos and Deimos as cruel, haunting menaces that requires Diana to use her wits to outmaneuver in order to defeat.

Since they feed on fear, they’re tapped into Diana’s concern for her missing friend Barbara. With the big milestone 25th issue arriving next month it’s safe to assume Wonder Woman is going to encounter Absolute Cheetah for the first time as she deals with Deimos and Phobos.

The Absolute Wonder Woman creative team has set a high bar so it’s understandable that not every issue can feel like the most surprising and epic installment. This issue is solid, but it doesn’t feel as gripping or as captivating as the majority of the series. Still, even an “average” issue of Absolute Wonder Woman is worth checking out especially since it’s the second part of a larger story arc.
