Geiger 25

Geiger 25 shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s been reading the title. It’s one of the Ghost Machine brand’s flagship titles and one of the best reads in comics in general.

For this big milestone issue, Geiger 25 features Tariq against President Miller in a cataclysmic battle that could decide the fate of the planet in the wake of the Unknown War.

Writer Geoff Johns has been building up to Geiger 25 for months now with the first encounter of Geiger and President Miller. This issue starts off with a brief origin of President Miller and how he developed his own radioactive powers. That’s a savvy play by Johns to have Geiger’s likely archnemesis to also have radioactive abilities.

While Tariq and Miller battle it out, Geiger’s allies Nate, Zigzag and Dr. Molotov, fight Miller’s soldiers as The Custodian tries to get his hands back on Junkyard Joe.

Geiger 25 also packs no surprises when it comes to the phenomenal artwork of Gary Frank. His art has been so dialed in since the series started and it’s safe to say now that this is Frank’s career best work. The details, the emotion and action he packs into every issue is incredible.

Ditto for colorist Brad Anderson who seems to relish opportunities to showcase the glowing effects of the Nuclear Man. With Miller having his distinct power set and radioactive colors, Geiger 25 was a visual treat. Letterer Rob Leigh crafts some stellar sound effect fonts and easy to follow dialogue.

Geiger 25 is a testament to the series creative team for hitting all of the marks and establishing the next likely to be amazing next arc starting next month. I say this too often, but if you’re not reading Geiger you’re truly missing a consistently fantastic read.
