MOTU Masterverse New Eternia Snout Spout review (2024)
Snout Spout has always been a Masters of the Universe character I’ve had a soft spot for ever since his appearance in the brief Marvel/Star Comics MOTU series. I love the idea that this formidable looking dude with a cybernetic elephant head is not just a fighter, but a firefighter.
That actually holds true with many of the Masters as they’ve got a secondary specialty besides being able to fight the Evil Warriors trying to get inside Castle Grayskull. Mattel has gotten me fully invested in the New Eternia subset line of MOTU, so I was thrilled to see Snout Spout was getting added to the line. Since he was more intricate than most of the figures, he was released as an exclusive to Mattel Creations instead of the traditional retail route.
Let’s see if Snout Spout is a fiery addition to the New Eternia line or if he’s all washed out.
Package: To really lean in on the premium nature of a Mattel Creations release, Snout Spout has an upgraded packaging with a resealable box. On the front is a fuller image of the standard wraparound New Eternia artwork.
In this case much more of the image is shown with Snout Spout charging through a fiery backdrop as he appears to be tangling with some snakes.
Over on the back is an additional image showing him resting on his axe with a few smoke trails in the distance and what looks like the burned carcass of the creature he was fighting on the front. His bio is on the inner left side explaining his role in the New Eternia timeline.
There is another removable tri-fold cardboard piece with the package artwork on one side and the Snake Men throne room with statues of King Hiss and Lady Slither on either side.
Likeness: It’s hard not to look at Snout Spout and not be immediately drawn to his head sculpt. It’s really impressive with a wider ears and far more elaborate tech paneling throughout. In the standard continuity, Hordak captured him to subject Snout Spout to experiments.
Some of the helmet designs definitely seems to have an Evil Horde influence specifically the effect from the light-piping eyes with red and black paint outline and the more menacing addition of tusks. Those definitely make him look more formidable and less of a joke character.
He’s got armored shoulder pads for a little extra protection and some extra bands around his biceps and thighs. Snout Spout’s gloves retain the basic cuff and segmented wrist areas, but there’s some additional padding on the back of his hands.
He keeps the harness from the original design while his belt is more pronounced with a more pronounced belt and water valve in the center. The boots have some segmentation and a steel toe plate.
Scale: New Eternia Snout Spout is technically around the same height as the other Masters, but his massive cybernetic helmet and shoulder pads make him look much taller than even He-Man, who is taller than the others.
That draws more attention to his head and further helps him stand out among the rest of the Masters.

Paint: Masterverse figures are normally free of frustrating paint issues. Snout Spout has a brighter color palette than many of the other heroic Masters thanks to an interesting color mix. His shoulder pads are a bright orange red that contrast fine with his mostly orange yellow outfit/body.
The bands are a muted maroon leading to the fuchsia gloves. Snout Spout is rocking bright blue shorts and wears plum boots. All of these elements naturally help draw more attention to the silver head.
The accent colors like the red and black around the lenses and red circle in the center are well done. His ear panels also have a subtle gold to break up the silver.
Articulation: Despite his larger frame, Snout Spout has no problem moving as smoothly as the other New Eternia figures. Of course, double-jointed elbows and butterfly shoulders would further enhance the articulation, but what is here works fine.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the ears can go back and forth and his trunk has full segmented articulation.
Snout Spout has:
- ears
- neck
- trunk (segmented)
- ball-jointed shoulders
- bicep
- elbow (double-jointed)
- wrist
- wrist hinge
- torso
- waist
- hip
- thigh
- knee
- ankle
Accessories: Snout Spout has some welcome accessories that further add to his value.
First, he’s got a backpack that stores his water reserves. That has decent detailing and is a solid orange red to match his shoulder pads. Next, he’s got two tubes that attach to his belt to help supply his water. A third smaller tube connects to the back of his head to the backpack.
Another neat addition is a decent sized water spray that can be plugged into the end of his trunk for both defensive and offensive options.
If he needs to get physical, Snout Spout has a set of swappable fists.
Finally, he comes with his main weapon, his large axe. It’s got some nicks to show that Snout Spout has used it in plenty of fights already.
It’s got a grip in the middle or if you prefer, he can hold the axe further down. This is a fair number of accessories for a New Eternia figure.
Worth it? New Eternia Snout Spout was an exclusive figure and not available in any stores, so he gets an exclusive price tag of $33. That’s not terrible since the average Masterverse figure was around $25 when he was released. And as usual, Mattel does a better job of providing value for their higher price action figures.
Rating: 9 out of 10
Snout Spout gets a fantastic New Eternia figure that was well worth tracking down at Mattel Creations. Now hopefully we can get an NE version of his comic buddy, Rio Blast.
Where to Get It? You won’t find New Eternia Snout Spout in stores, and he’s sold out at Mattel Creations, but you can still get him from Amazon.
