2. Iron Man (Iron Man)

JKL: This is the best example of updating a comic costume while retaining everything that makes the source material so endearing. Iron Man’s a guy in a suit of armor and through the years, he’s worn a dull grey suit, a golden repaint, the classic red and yellow, a blue stealth and a black and silver look.

With Robert Downey Jr. playing the character it may not have mattered how Iron Man looked, but Director Jon Favreau did his part to usher in the new cinematic comic book age by going with a more colorful look for the armor. IM could have been black, silver with some random red accents, but the armor has that bigger than life look with its candy apple red and yellow accents that says “yes, this is what a superhero is supposed to look like.”

Ironically, the current armor Iron Man wears in the comic is predominantly black with yellow accents and not so surprisingly I hate it.

SA: Like the Blade movie, this was a case where the film version actually enhanced the comic version due to the perfect casting / portrayal.
