10 best Comic Book Movie Costumes
9. Poison Ivy (Batman & Robin)
JKL: This will probably be the only time I will possibly be able to find something to compliment the otherwise abysmal second Joel Schumacher Batman film. With long stark red hair, a leaf-like bathing suit and light green tights, Uma Thurman’s costume is a solid hybrid of a look you could easily find in a Batman comic. Lose the green eye accents and this outfit could actually work in Christopher Nolan’s more realistic take on The Dark Knight. That’s how solid and well done the costume design by Ingrid Ferrin and Robert Turturice is.
GP: One of the coolest things about Poison Ivy in Batman & Robin is that she actually has costume changes, which you don’t find in a lot of comic movies. Creating one amazing costume is a feat, but by designing multiple spectacular looks, Ferrin and Turturice set the bar high.
CS: The highest compliment to a movie translation of comic costuming is the continued representation at Comic-cons, the king of which is San Diego. Further, drag queens translating the look is the ultimate sign of approval. I could have lined up two dozen drag queens in “Uma Thurman” Poison Ivys. She also is an actress who fit the costume without aid of knives.. Two green thumbs up!
