Peacemaker – Ignorance is Chris review S2 E6

It was clear early on that Ignorance is Chris was going to be a major episode. James Gunn has written every episode this season, but he hasn’t directed many so that was the first clue.

The next was the title, which suggested that our guy Chris was in for a huge revelation about his perfect world. In fairness it’s a perfect world to some folks, but fortunately not our very flawed hero.

Ignorance is Chris has one more telltale that the veil is about to be lifted as The Top Trio and Emilia are eating lunch when a group of kids asks for a selfie. After Emilia takes it, the image starts distorting their faces as if they’re in the third installment of Smile.

The 11th Street Kids head to Adrian’s place where his mother unknowingly reveals all the lies he’s been telling her like Harcourt is in love with him and Economos is a dork (ok, maybe not all lies).

Vigilante’s lair has tons of drugs and money, resulting in the best sight gag of Ignorance is Chris as the others quickly stash some cash in their clothes when he turns his back.

Opening the portal caused a blowback of blow with a wave of cocaine coating their clothes. Adrian has been super annoying but in Ignorance is Chris, he’s actually been pretty funny.

The gang manages to hide when Keith comes in after hearing Harcourt. He’s surprised to see her since he thought she was with Chris. And her all-black attire and pants is really throwing him off. Ads is equally baffled why Harcourt leaves to go to ARGUS with Keith.

Since Harcourt went rogue, Adrian heads off to satisfy his curiosity and find his doppelgänger. He’s thrilled to find his keys work to get into the lair. And surprise! His doppelgänger is every bit the weirdo with all the same quirks — except for one big thing.

Doppelgänger Adrian says he hates Peacemaker, who’s his archenemy and the reason he joined the Sons of Liberty in the first place.

En route to ARGUS, Harcourt notices something Chris hadn’t picked up on and it’s not that this universe’s Beatles are led by Mick Jagger.

MORE:

Chris is enjoying his morning waking up with Emilia, who’s got some stuff to do and tells him she’ll catch up. That would have made things awkward when Harcourt gets to ARGUS and has to deal with security since the dog smelled the cocaine on her jacket. Chris arrives and immediately realizes Harcourt has crossed over.

In a holding cell, Chris and Harcourt has things out. She explains Sasha was going to kill him and he confirms that Harcourt had a thing with Rick Flag Jr. and she tells Chris she knows he loves her. But she won’t share her feelings as she doesn’t want that to affect his decision to stay or return with the 11th Street Kids.

Back on the standard Earth, Rick Flag Sr. is frustrated at his lack of success in finding Peacemaker. Out of options, Rick heads to Belle Reve and visits Lex Luthor. He’s got a proposal for the mastermind — figure out a way to track the portal and he can get out of Belle Reve. While Rick got what he needed, he’s not thrilled about being partners with Lex Luthor.

After tidying up after Eagly, Ads tries to get Economos to go for a walk with her. He stays behind while Ads is confused by the weird looks she’s getting in the neighborhood.

Harcourt has definitely figured out what’s wrong as she asks if Chris doesn’t notice anything weird here. “I haven’t seen a single person of color.” Chris starts to consider what Harcourt says when he spots a different kind of American flag — one with a swastika on it. They don’t get long to debate it as Emilia arrives in the ARGUS office telling security to arrest Harcourt.

Back at the Smith household, Aggie arrives home and quickly subdues Economos who reveals everything including that Chris killed this world’s Chris. Meanwhile, Ads is on the run from the lynch mob chasing after her. That’s a crazy way to wrap this episode.

Ignorance is Chris really sets in motion the final two episodes of this season with this wild reveal that totally ruins Peacemaker’s illusion of his perfect world.
