Star Wars The Black Series Jango Fett figure review (2025)

Jango Fett was one of my favorite additions to the Star Wars mythos from the prequels. I loved his whole attitude, presentation and his willingness to take on Jedi on his own. My Star Wars The Black Series collection wasn’t going to be complete with a good Jango. Initially, I grabbed the Gaming Greats version, but that was underwhelming based on my experience with the Mandalorian Super Commandoes, which reused that mold.

The Black Series team revealed an updated version of Jango with much improved proportions and an articulation model for a template better suited for the Army of the Republic. Let’s see if this upgraded Jango Fett was worth the wait or if heads should roll.

Packaging: Jango is in the standard packaging setup with the dark red accent color associated with the Attack of the Clones characters. He’s No. 10 in the line and has Barriss Offee on the left side and the Geonosian Warrior on the right. Considering Taun We was part of the next wave of AOTC figures, it probably would have made more sense to have her next to Jango.

His bio is terrific as always as it explains Jango’s backstory although it doesn’t focus on any of the events before or during Attack of the Clones.

Likeness:  The big difference with this updated Jango Fett and the Gaming Greats figure is this one isn’t as squat and stubby. Jango wasn’t a giant, but the GG figure made him look dumpy and like he’d been eating a bit too well on Kamino.

The new version has a more streamlined appearance to the armor most apparent with the chest and thigh plates. This makes the armor look like protection that allows him to still move freely without restricting his movements.

Given the variations of Mandalorians we’ve seen since then, Jango’s look is somewhat plain although there are some unique elements like the pouches along the belt and the holster strap setup.

While the new variations might have spoiled me, Jango is well executed and I love the detailed work with the creases and wrinkles of his outfit. I do wish the sleeves looked better as they resemble short sleeves with a matching longer shirt underneath.

This updated Jango Fett sports a much better likeness to the younger Temuera Morrison with some strong details like the scar through his left eyebrow and intense expression.

Paint: Hasbro’s first version of Jango featured a lot of scarring and scoring on the armor. The Gaming Greats version ditched the paint applied battle damage but retained enough paint to simulate that the armor wasn’t fresh from The Armorer’s forge. This is a pristine clean version with shiny, almost reflective coating on the armor elements. It needed just a bit of grime to “dirty” it up just a bit.

The leather pouches needed a dark wash as well. Jango’s head sculpt is excellent with a light scar across his forehead and a darker red scar through the eyebrow.

His skin tone is accurate with a darker hue and a well applied five o’clock shadow. Mine is just missing a little black around his hairline. Jango’s helmet is lacking just a fraction of black paint at the bottom.

Scale: Jango rarely stood face to face with people. He is about eye to eye with Obi-Wan Kenobi and half a head shorter than Count Dooku. He’ll definitely be looking up to Taun We and Mace Windu as well.

Articulation: Jango Fett was a skilled marksman and needs to be able to aim with his arms raised high above his head. The figure also needed to be able to do a standard T-pose for most of his basic stances.

This figure is a vast improvement over the original Jango mold as it’s not top heavy and can actually convincingly hit all of the poses you’d expect.

Accessories:  Jango Fett gets all of his essential accessories.

First off, is his jetpack. Previous Black Series Jango figures didn’t have a snug fit with them, but this one won’t just pop off because you looked at it funny. Like the rest of the armor, it could use some weathering, so it didn’t look so pristine.

Next up are his dual signature custom WESTAR-34 blaster pistols. The detailing is impressive as always from this line. Again, they look too clean and would benefit from a darker wash just to grime them up a little.

Finally, Jango has his removable helmet. It’s scaled properly and doesn’t make him look like a child wearing an adult help like the GG version.

Worth it?  The Gaming Greats Jango Fett version had a higher exclusive price tag of $25 so the difference with the standard Black Series update isn’t that significant since it’s now $27.99. This figure is easily an upgrade for a comparable price minus the overly clean paint job.

Jango Fett gets a much-improved figure from the previous Gaming Great version, and my collection finally has a figure worthy of one of the prequel’s best villains.
