McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse Green Lantern Jessica Cruz review (2025)

Jessica Cruz was one of the more interesting Green Lanterns added to the Corps in a long time. She was a Green Lantern who dealt with crippling PTSD and self-doubt making her a less-than-ideal candidate to wield a ring. Eventually learning how to manage her fear and self-doubt, she teamed with fellow relatively new Green Lantern, Simon Baz, to fully embrace the concept of cops as they focused on Earth as part of the DC Rebirth era of the Justice League.

Jess got a very good figure from Mattel in its waning few months with the DC license, but they weren’t able to get a Simon Baz figure out to stores in time. McFarlane Toys released a Simon Baz, but it was starting to look like we wouldn’t get a Jessica Cruz to pair with him. Fortunately, they came through with an effort that might make for one of the best Lanterns yet.

Let’s see if Jessica Cruz gets a figure worth shining a green light on or it’s an offering that strikes fear in collectors’ hearts.

Packaging:  Jessica Cruz is the platinum chase of this Page Punchers wave. McFarlane has really played fast and loose with the platinum concept where it’s so much more than just a simple repaint. In this case, the Page Punchers main figure was Hal Jordan so it was a welcome surprise that Jessica was his alternate.

The Page Punchers packaging is weird since the comic book art is on the back leaving the figure to get a weird showcase with an all-black backdrop on the back of the comic. At least this allows Jess and her green constructs to pop more. The included comic is Green Lanterns 48 featuring both Jess and Hal on the cover.

Likeness: Jessica Cruz uses the Knightfall Catwoman mold complete with the sculpted seam lines down her torso and the thigh high boots with heels. For whatever reason, McFarlane didn’t see the value in having a diverse array of female molds. I’m just thankful she’s not on the Wonder Woman mold.

It’s a little easier to look past the Catwoman sculpt thanks to the gorgeous head sculpt. Some of the female figures have rough head sculpts, but that is not the case here.

Jess’ expression is focused and determined, and her hair is flowing behind her shoulders.

Her ring is sculpted appropriately on her right hand.

Scale: Jessica Cruz is listed as 5’9″ putting her just a few inches shorter than her partner, the 6′ Simon Baz and the 6’2″ Hal Jordan. She’ll also line up about eye to eye with Jade, another female figure using the Knightfall Catwoman mold.

Paint: The paintwork for Jessica Cruz is really nicely done. She has a slightly darker skin tone to convey her Latina background. The lantern around her right eye should have a more prominent opening of its center, but that seems tricky to accurately do and make it look right. Mattel did the lantern setup accurate but colored her eyes white while McFarlane actually painted the right eye green to mirror that effect.

Her hair is painted black, which is tricky since her hair should be brown. It’s colored that way 80% of the time, but there are plenty of instances where it’s black although all the included art with the figure has her hair colored brown.

Jess’ uniform elements are otherwise spot on including the thick black line under her chest logo that goes down to her mid waist.

Articulation: The Catwoman mold is an easier one to pose thanks to no costume elements restricting the 22 points of articulation setup. Jessica Cruz isn’t doing any spin kicks or cartwheels and is able to pull off ring gesturing poses with no problem.

Her hair does create some limitations in flying poses, but otherwise she’s a very fluid figure to set up in action stances even with the heels.

Accessories: DC Multiverse figures are usually pretty lean on the accessories front, which can be disappointing with Green Lantern figures who could literally come with anything.

Jessica Cruz gets a translucent emerald energy burst that can be positioned like it’s emanating from her ring. It’s a new effect piece and a welcome addition since it can work for other lanterns.

She also has a green burst trail that doesn’t really do much of anything since it’s too wide to fit on her arm. It does work ok for Simon.

As usual, she comes with the trading card and black circular stand.

Worth it?  Jessica Cruz clocks in at $27.99. That’s a tough price considering how long McFarlane fought to keep the prices for the 7″ line cheaper than the 6″ lines when they started shooting up in price. Jess is one of the figures that makes that price point easier to tolerate, however.

Barring the issue with the heels preventing her from reliably standing without the included stand, this is a really solid Jessica Cruz figure and a great addition to the Green Lantern Corps.

Where to get it?  Jessica Cruz is harder to find, but you might have decent luck at Target. Her partner is a lot easier as Simon Baz is still available at Amazon.
