Dark Horse review 10/14/26 – Star-Crossed 3
Star-Crossed 3 takes the fun of this Space Bandits and Sharkey the Bounty Hunter clash and takes it to another level.
After another wild outing, Cody Blue breaks the news to her partner in crime, Thena Kole that they’ve both contracted Jonlinn Terauts, an auto immune virus that will kill them in months after the symptoms start to appear.
That makes for an impressive setup for Star-Crossed 3 especially since writer Mark Millar is one of those 50/50 writers where he could easily devise a cure for the Space Bandits or let them die in an unconventional twist.
That’s been the beauty of the MillarVerse. He’s created enough doubt by killing off main characters in various titles that the scenario raised in Star-Crossed 3 realistically could have a not so happy ending. For the record of course, Cody and Thena are too enjoyable a pair of bandits to kill them off so early in their run.

While sympathizing with their plight, Sharkey can’t turn down the bounty the Queen of Enough has placed on their heads. Sharkey learned the artificial sun on his father’s home-world has been turned off by oligarchs. There’s no reasoning with them beyond money so Sharkey reasons that two space bandits is a perfectly acceptable trade off in order to keep a planet sustainable.
Just as Sharkey and his side kick, Extra Bill, have Cody and Thena in their sights, a group of police officers come after Extra Bill and Sharkey on account of Extra Bill’s dubious past. That leads to a string of betrayals that keeps the issue unpredictable with character motivation all over the place in a terrific way.
Millar makes this interplay very engaging as Star-Crossed 3 repeats some dialogue from the previous issue with the roles reversed.
Artist/co-colorist Corrado Mastanuono delivers sensational artwork for Star-Crossed 3. This series has a distinct look with plenty of personality for the characters and lively action sequences.
Teaming with co-colorist Niso Mastanuono, the vibrant colors pop bringing more excitement than what could have been a very bleak and muted bounty hunter story.
Letter Clem Robins provides prominent sound effect fonts to convey the carnage playing out in Star-Crossed 3.
It reads like the Star-Crossed 3 creative team understands the potential they have with this series and are making sure each issue rises and surpasses expectations.
