Moonstruck #3

Julie has an interesting life as a barista. She’s a werewolf, she’s falling in love with another werewolf named Selena, her co-worker, Chet, is a centaur, and her other friends are a supernatural hot mess too. Julie’s longing to be normal doesn’t look like it’ll become a reality anytime soon, does it? Nah.

Issue #3 opens with a depressed Chet behind the counter of the coffee shop. His centaur legs, (butt), have been taken by magicians in the previous issue. He no longer feels the will to carry on but Julie and Selena are determined to cheer him up as well as help him retrieve his butt. The Homecoming parade is happening for Blitheton State University and perhaps there’s some clues to help or perhaps there’s more mayhem in store for Julie.

This issue is definitely an interesting ride, seeing so many supernatural characters with such diversity was an awesome read. I would recommend this issue, (and series), to other members of the LGBT considering I hardly ever see such diversity of queerness in media.

There’s a wide variety of races, the lead character Julie is Latina and her love interest Selena is a black woman which is rare because in far too many entertainment forms we are reduced to background characters. Far too often, LGBT media seems to be typical, predominantly white, and Moonstruck breaks that wall with ease. Beautiful art work and acceptance of more than one type of race, sexuality, gender identity, and magic definitely keeps this series worth checking out and keeps fans eager for what’s next to come.
